Dudu Busani Dube is a South African fiction author and a journalist by profession.
She made her mark with the three books Hlomu the Wife, Zandile and Naledi which appeals to the average female black reader from the townships of South Africa.
She has also written her 4th Book 'Zulu Wedding' which is a narrative based on a film.
While still working as a journalist and covering a number of high profile court cases, Dudu went on a journey of self-publishing her series of fiction books Hlomu the Series.
She is viewed as a writer for the everyday woman; and her series have gained a huge following.
Born and raised in Kwa- Mashu, KZN, she left the excitement of Kwa-Mashu and her storytelling began long before her trek to the City of Gold.
The author in her was first discovered by a high school teacher who was fed up with her "troublesome" ways and tasked her with writing a fictional story as punishment.
She holds a Journalism Diploma from the Durban University of Technology.
In 2018 she was recognised by the Ethekwini Municipality among 18 young top achievers from the province.
Dudu began writing the series in 2014 as fiction.
The three books are centered on eight Zulu brothers from Mbuba village in Greytown, who relocated to Johannesburg when they were young after their parents were killed in a mob justice attack during political violence in their area.
It is relatable because it depicts raw, African love stories, something not often told.
All three books are narrated by the women who encounter and fall in love with the bug-eyed, tall, dark and handsome Zulu brothers.
"The greatest thing about writing fiction is you don't know where the story is going. When I was writing Hlomu I became her - you internalise the character and you let her lead you," Dudu
It took about seven months to complete writing the first book.
But when she wrote Zandile and Naledi she knew who the people were, so they were quicker than Hlomu.
All three books were published within a year.
